Social Tech Under ATOA’s Radar
Two immediate and high-impact priorities are Clean Water and Affordable Housing.
Clean Water
Access to safe drinking water remains one of the world’s most urgent challenges. Billions still lack reliable access to potable water, leading to health crises, economic losses, and social inequality.
ATOA’s approach:
Dew and atmospheric water harvesting: Using biomimetic designs inspired by desert beetles and plants, combined with simulation-based optimization of condensation surfaces.
Solar-driven desalination and purification: Multiphysics modelling of thermal, optical, and fluid transport to design low-cost, energy-efficient purification systems.
Nanomaterial membranes: Simulation of flow, fouling, and filtration at molecular scales for more effective and affordable filtration.
Distributed water systems: Using hierarchical branching models (like nature’s vascular networks) for community-scale water distribution with minimal energy input.

Affordable Housing
Housing is a fundamental human right, yet rapid urbanization and economic disparity leave billions without safe and affordable shelter.
ATOA’s approach:
Simulation-based low-cost housing design: Using structural CAE to optimize material use, reducing cost while maintaining safety.
3D printed housing: Large-scale additive manufacturing of concrete structures, simulated for nozzle mechanics, curing, and thermal stress.
Composite and bio-inspired building materials: Leveraging, local available materials, bamboo, recycled plastics, or cellular composites with optimized strength-to-weight ratios.
Climate-responsive housing: Simulating thermal, acoustic, and daylighting performance for comfort without expensive HVAC systems.
Impact for People:
Affordable, resilient housing solutions adaptable to local resources and climates, improving the quality of life for millions in both rural and urban contexts.
Beyond Water and Housing
While clean water and affordable housing are near-term focus areas, our Social Tech Radar also scans for breakthroughs in:
